What is Veterinary Science?

A course in Dairy Farming Diploma teaches about milk production, quality, processing and packaging, dairy products, dairy management and entrepreneurship in the dairy industry. This course duration could be 1-4 years. The IGNOU in Delhi, the CMJ University in Shillong, and the Kerala Vet & Animal Sciences University, Trivandrum are the institutions that offer these courses.

Job Prospects– Once this course is done, both private & public sector organizations offer employment opportunities. One can also start own ice cream shop or own Dairy Farm.

A course such as Veterinary Lab Technician teaches one about surgery, laboratory aid, animal care, critical functions such as collection, sampling, testing, and reporting of data. Parasitology, Pathology, and Public Health are other topics covered in the course. They are taught how to maintain cleanliness of equipment, how to organize and analyse clinical procedures before use.

This course takes around 1-2 years to complete. The technician learns how to keep the veterinary lab in good working condition, learn about various types of equipment used, chemicals, instruments, electronic devices, computers, and other related topics. A lab technician is responsible for using the right cleaning agents to keep lab clean.

Job Prospect– Following course completion, one is qualified to work as a lab technician in a veterinary laboratory.

Admission Procedure

Admissions to diploma in veterinary studies following 10th grade is now based on results of 10th grade. Some colleges are now conducting Admission Tests.

In Government Colleges, the annual tuition fee varies between INR 1500 to 40,000

Private colleges charge annual tuition fees ranging between INR 50,000 to 2 lakhs.
